Abstract


Small enterprises are the basic forces in promoting regional economic prosperity and maintaining regional economic vitality,the headspring of economic growth and one of the important pushing powers of technological innovation.Since reform and opening up, China’s economy has stepped on a rapid development track.Especially in the eastern region,the economy has witnessed an unprecedented prosperity and vitality because of the unprecedented booming of small enterprises which are,to a large extent,due to the elimination of all aspects of obstacles to the development of small enterprises.However, China’s regional economic development is very imbalanced.In terms of economic and social development,there are big differences among eastern,central and western part of the country.Many under-developed regions are waiting for exploitation.In the practice of economic exploitation of less developed areas,we are often,at the very beginning,in favor of large projects and big factories.The role of small enterprises has not been placed enough emphasis.Therefore,this article takes ties between small businesses and regional economic development,to explore the critical role and inherent mechanism of the small business in the regional economic development from a theoretical and empirical point of view.In this paper,it firstly defines the concepts of small business and its related ideas at home and abroad,comprehensively explains the theories and newly study progress about the development of small enterprises.It has made a systematic research on the ties between small enterprises and regional development by an adoption of the combination of theoretic and practical way and by an integrated use of several theories,such as development economics,regional economics,industrial economics and business clusters.It unveils the important role and working mechanism of the small enterprises in the regional economic development.And,the article gives a brief introduction to the development of small enterprises in several major developed countries as well as China’s Hong Kong and Macao, and gives an analysis to the achievement and current status of our country’s economic development through the perspective of small enterprises.It demonstrates the important influence of small enterprise on regional economic development through the angle of empirical analysis.Then,this paper demonstrates that small business is the logical starting point and suitable choice for economic development in underdeveloped regions of our country.Major obstacles and problems faced in developing small enterprises in underdeveloped regions have been comprehensively analyzed.Finally,this article gives some corresponding policies and suggestions on developing small business in China’s less developed regions,in hoping that these policies can enable small businesses blossom in underdeveloped areas,so as to promote economic development,maintain regional economic stability,reach coordinated development,and a long-term prosperity.
