Buckling Restrained Brace (BRB) performs good hysteretic properties and energy dissipation, and will be widely used in engineering applications. Now the research and application of BRB focus on framework system, and get significant results. But in the field of large-span spatial structures, especially in reticulated shell which is very sensitive to seismic action, the application of BRBs is still in theoretical research. It can improve the structure’s seismic capacity in the earthquake after setting up BRB in reticulated shell, and have a good prospect.In the past, it always ignored the effect on reticulated shell from supporting structure in calculation. The supporting structure was only separated from the overall structure in the form of simply supported end or clamped boundary. And it only computed the upper reticulated shell structure, or simply simulated the work together with supporting structures and upper reticulated shell structure by simplifying supporting structures into springs and additional qualities. But the inertia of supporting structures actually has impact on internal forces, side thrusts of supporting bearings and deflections of nodes. The vibration of supporting structures would affect the bearing capacity of overall structure in earthquake. Especially in rare earthquake, the effect from supporting structures can not be ignored or computed simply, and it needs to be analyzed by overall structure.This paper chooses K6 spherical shell as an example, which considers the effect on seismic response from the work together with supporting structures and upper shell. BRBs are set up in upper and supporting structures, and compare the different layout of BRBs in supporting structure. Using finite software MIDAS and ANSYS, New reticulated shell structures are analyzed to research on BRBs’ damping effect at high-intensity zone in rare earthquake, by static elastic-plastic analysis (Pushover Analysis) and dynamic elastic-plastic analysis (Elastic-plastic time-history Analysis) method. The results shows that damping effect of reticulated shell with BRBs is evident, and BRBs can effectively improve the degree of safety of long-span spatial structures.
