Towards a Model of Pictorial Illustrations in English-Chinese Learner’s Dictionaries

Abstract


Illustrations Dictionary contribution is not only limited to the decorative layout , the reasonable configuration illustrations can complement the interpretation of the transmission of cultural information , expand vocabulary , explain the grammar and broaden the dictionary user knowledge . Compared to mainstream learning dictionary , domestic Chinese learner dictionary illustrations both quantity and quality point of view are dwarfs . At the same time , the domestic and international dictionary illustrations are also quite limited , resulting in a lack of guidance illustrations set in theory . For the lack of existing research , this paper focuses on the following three questions : ( 1) dictionary illustrations cognitive analysis ; ( 2 ) Longitudinal Analysis examines the mainstream learning dictionary illustrations ; ( 3) learning in Chinese and English dictionary Illustration of optimized processing mode . Analysis in the theoretical part of this paper, the dual coding theory and the theory of limited cognitive ability dictionary illustrations cognitive , explained from a cognitive perspective illustration of the importance of the dictionary , the illustrations , the need for consistency with the dictionary text , illustrations, text modifiers interactive illustrations , illustrations and learners vocabulary expansion of relations , the expression vector illustrations accepted individual differences / cultural differences , illustrations of its functions , as well as illustrations of the position of its functions , effectively compensate for the historical dictionary illustration lack of cognitive research for this shortfall. Unlike previous studies , only one or a few of the dictionary illustrations to inspect the lateral research methods in the dictionary comparison part of the four mainstream learning dictionary illustration illustrations longitudinal analysis comparing various versions to identify its illustrations the six trends three points less than at the same time reveals the current domestic Chinese learner dictionary illustrations set . Based on these research results , this paper gives the illustration process optimization in a English-Chinese Dictionary learning mode , the model takes into consideration all aspects of the English-Chinese the learning dictionary structure illustrations set , follow the principle of cognitive rules -based English-Chinese learning dictionary user and the principle of sublation mainstream learning dictionary illustrations , and provide a demonstration and application of three specific steps to ensure its viability .
