Abstract

Electrorheological fluid (ER fluid) is a kind of intelligent material, its mechanical properties can be control by applied electric field, is a high dielectric constant of micron or nanometer particles and the uniform mixture of oil, when the applied electric field strength is less than a certain critical value, the electrorheological fluids in suspending liquid phase; Above the critical value, electrorheological fluid into liquid solid separation phase. In this article, we focus on colloid electrorheological fluid effect, the surface of colloidal particles and the infiltration between the oil properties and its effects on particle dispersion of the close relationship between. We found that the particles infiltration make good particles dispersed system of electrorheological fluid effect is far higher than the particles don't infiltrate gathered clouds of particles system under the condition of the electrorheological effect. Our study showed that colloid particles and oil between invasive effect on the formation of the structure of electrorheological fluid can't be ignored. In order to further improve the system of electrorheological effect, in addition to the particle dielectric properties of modified, must also consider the base fluid was modified to ensure that the particles are well dispersed in the base. At the same time, in order to quantitative characterization of particles and liquid infiltrating, considering the fluid laminar flow theory under the condition of the pressure, we developed a new formula of capillary rise method.
