Abstract

Urban commercial complex (UCC) known as a burgeoning architecture genre has a short history of development in China. Compared with the importance of developing and building UCC in practice, the study of its theory of design, summing up experience, the principles and strategies is less. Concerning the constitution speed and developing trend of UCC inside of the country presently, it’s certain to be the main architecture genre in urban constitution, on the other hand, plenty of issues on building UCC in China are leaving to be deeply explored. Apparently, it’s the most necessary and urgent to study the theory of demonstration space, principles and strategies et cetera, then, find ideal ways of developing UCC to meet Chinese national conditions.The development of UCC is the subjective material carrier on which the third industry, especially commerce and business affairs, that is well developed by cities, is concentrated. Meanwhile, it’s also an inevitable trend for resolving the contradiction between limited ground and urban development. After examining the history of the development of cities and construction space, and learning from the painful lesson of town spread resulting from extensive expansion in the process of west urbanization,we find that“intensification space”is a space-related strategy which can both adapt to our current national conditions and meet the needs of urban sustainable development.The focus of the study is the intensification design strategy of environmental space and construction space of UCC. First, we examine status quo of the development of UCC and existing issues in China. And then, we research the intensive design principles and strategies of improving space utilization efficiency in UCC by referencing theoretical achievements and practical experience of the developed countries.The paper include four parts, in which we discussed the causes, theories, principles,strategies and a series of issues about spatial intensive design of UCC in spiral development process:Part 1: Chapter Two. through comparative analysis of practical cases ,we can preliminarily know general situation of the spatial development of UCC. first, we compare the new and old commercial architectural spatial construction,new ideas about foreign spatial structure of complex, preliminarily know general situation of the spatial development of UCC. Then, according to actual situation,we put forward the point view of“spatial intensification”and study its development motivation and significance.Part 2: Chapter 3 leads us to profoundly understand the theoretical foundation of the spatial intensification design for urban commercial complex. Starting with differentiation and analysis theoretical back ground of the spatial intensification, we summarize the principal characters of the intensification design, deduct four principles of the spatial intensification design for urban commercial complex, and finally elaborate on two layers of measure of the spatial intensification research.Part 3: in chapter four and five, we study on strategies and measures referring to two levels of environmental space and construction space, which is based on the design principles of spatial intensification. in chapter tour: design strategies of environmental special intensification:we compartmentalize complex environmental space into three spatial structure by function and feature: open space, traffic space,construction space. According to the theory of urban growth by C. Alexander,we focus on their mutual relation under intensive use of land and specific intensive design strategies of each kind. Chapter five: the design strategy of architectural space intensification:in terms of architecture space construction,This part study on intensive design strategy of functional space, flowing space,structural space and the external spatial structure, focusing on combination model of intensive functional space using the mixed function of complex,streamline design for vertical circulation of flowing space intensive design to reduce structural point in constructional space the expression of intensive external spatial modeling.Part 4: conclusion and prospect. in chapter six, according to the principal arguments in those chapters mentioned above, we conclude that spatial intensive design could be the fundamental ways to improve urban spatial environment, increase space utilization, and guarantee urban sustainable development. It means to compact spatial structure, orderly divide and combine spatial structure. We advocate that using advanced technology and create harmonious and effective spatial environment of UCC.
