Abstract

Non-Chinese vocabulary is ingredient from the minority languages, it is the product of contact between Chinese and minority languages, its formation was the cause of the language internal reasons, and also political, social, psychological and other external causes. Non-Chinese vocabulary has had a certain impact on Chinese and characters; it has enriched the Chinese vocabulary, promoted the development of multi-syllable word in the ancient Chinese, enhanced some productive words, increased some new voice forms, and promoted the development of Chinese phonology.Non-Chinese vocabulary is the product of the exchange between culture and society, is the witnesses of cultural exchanges and the history contacts, with three identities, the language, culture, social symbols, and also has a certain degree of lingual, cultural, social and psychological function. Researching the non-Chinese vocabulary is necessary, the development of modern linguistics have emerged several trends, one of which is the analysis of language from a single point of view, a single method shift to multi-angle, multi-method, the study of minority languages is also should be like this. China’s ethnic groups live together over vast areas while some live in individual concentrated communities in small areas, coupled with mutual exchange, mutual integration of all ethnic groups in the long-term development process, we need to study Chinese and minority languages combined in this important basic national condition.The thesis is divided into four chapters:Chapter I: sources of non-Chinese vocabulary in the ancient Chinese. Contacts between Han and foreign nationalities in different eras are different, main sources of non-Chinese vocabulary are also different. There are traces of non-Chinese vocabulary in primitive Chinese. In the Middle Ages there are two large-scale contacts, leaving a great deal non-Chinese vocabulary to the Chinese from the Huns and all kinds of objects in the Western Regions. In the Middle Ages the relating aspects of non-Chinese vocabulary has increased, the non-Chinese vocabulary in this time comes into a broader level, namely, life terms and beliefs. During Late Antiquity the minority power in the whole country or parts of the country for a long time, bringing some of their nation’s own words, but with the minority regime was overthrown, these non-Chinese words are mostly disappeared.Chapter II: nature and function of non-Chinese vocabulary in the ancient Chinese .Non-Chinese vocabulary has three identities, which is language symbols, cultural symbols and social symbols .It reflects the integration of language and culture, also reflect the conflict between them. Language study is always together with the culture study, language evolution and development is closely linked with social development. Non-Chinese vocabulary is the result of interaction of language and culture, through the surface point of view it is a part vocabulary comes from the foreign culture, but also overcomes Chinese psychological barriers and culture fortress then enters into Chinese, which is absorbed and accommodated by Chinese culture.Chapter III: types of non-Chinese vocabulary in the ancient Chinese. From three aspects to study the types of non-Chinese vocabulary, that is the form, generation and semantic. Form includes three main sub-types, transliteration, free translation, transliterated-and-liberally translation. Generation includes borrow, substrate and exchange. Semantic type is mainly from the semantic analysis.Chapter IV: trends and norms for non-Chinese vocabulary in the ancient Chinese, Chinese vocabulary system is an open system, when the non-Chinese vocabulary enters into the Chinese, it will tend to impact the existing norms of Chinese Vocabulary, but after "precipitation" can fill the gaps and become a useful element for the Han people, and then extend a new meaning, become a highly productive Chinese morpheme. In order to better promote the health of Chinese, we must do a good job in the standardization work of non-Chinese vocabulary. Norms of non-Chinese vocabulary are not intended to restrict, hinder the use of non-Chinese vocabulary, but to make a better use of non-Chinese words, to promote the healthy development of Chinese vocabulary.
