In the recent years, due to the ever deepening of our country’s economic and social system reform, the steady upgrading and adjusting of the industrial structure, together with other non-systemic reasons, the employment problem has become one of the most striking contradictions in the social transformation process. Since the latter half of the year 2008, the international financial crisis has created a great shock to our country’s real economy. The recession in oversea demand, the slowdown of economic acceleration, as well as the substantial drop of recruiting requirement resulted from enterprises’tight personnel policy, all these factors make the severe employment difficulty of university graduates more serious. From the perspective of the co-action of human capital and social capital, this study comparatively analyzes the employment situation of graduates of different majors and genders basing on the binary logistic model, probes into the elements influencing the university graduates’employment and reveals the mechanism working on that.The study finds out the following phenomena: In terms of the human capital function, graduates’academic record has a significant influence on their employment- better academic records, easier employment; graduates’professional skills have an positive influence on the natural science graduates’employment; practical competence such as being student cadres plays an evident positive part in the employment of the arts and social science graduates and the female graduates, which may relates to their job category; too much part-time-job experience shows a negative influence on employment, which indicates that one should take part-time job moderately. In terms of the social capital function, the positive influence of the social network resources is mainly reflected in the function of the top part of the network; the function of the network scale is verified by the models of the arts graduates and female graduates, demonstrating the function of idiosyncratic and non-repeated information on employment; the social status of the powerful relation such as parents and relatives, etc. has an obvious positive influence on the graduates’employment in the models of the science graduates and female graduates, partly confirming the hypothesis“the power of the powerful relation”raised by Bian Yanjie.Based on the conclusions of the empirical analysis, the study raises some policy proposals on easing the university graduates’difficulty in employment from different perspectives of graduates, higher educational institutions and the government, etc.. On the basis of keeping the necessary identity recognition, university graduates should transform their minds, improve their professional skills, participate in appropriate social practice, accumulate human capital and expanse social capital; higher education should adjust majors timely, reform the talents cultivating mode and perfect the employment service system gradually according to the market demand and the long-term goal of the sustainable development of society; the government should further complete the employment market, formulate efficient policy to stimulate university graduates’employment, establish and perfect the information monitoring and forewarning system of graduates’employment, guide the reasonable floatation of university graduates, and help them get employed successfully.
