Abstract

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are comprised of a collection of wireless mobile nodes communicating with each other without any support of fixed communication facilities. Ad Hoc netwoks are self-organized, which are very useful in such applicants where temporary, fast and on-demand communication needed to be built. As one of the unique characteristics of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks, nodal mobility may lead to dynamic changes of topology, thus have impact on performance of the MAC protocols, routing protocols, power control schemes, broadcast and multicast algorithms, and so on.Mobility models are designed to describe node movement characteristics including location, mobility vector, accerlate speed, paust time, and so on, in order to provide mobile scenarios in the applications of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks simulation. Algorithm analysis and network simulation demonstrate that different mobility limits resulted in different characteristics of nodal mobility. Based on the observation that in most realistic scenarios mobile devices are carried by human beings which relusts in a nodal movement human behavior related. Thus, in order to describe the convergence motion of nodes, which is frequently seen in many scenarios such as military, conference, campus and so on, a new vector-constraint entity mobility model is advanced. The main contributions of this paper are as follows:(1) Notion of temporarily grouped nodes is introduced for the designing of mobility models, based on which a novel mobility model - Dynamic Interest Induced Mobility Model (DIIMM) is proposed to describe convergence motion occurring frequently in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks.(2) In the use of several mobility metrics and topology connectivity metrics, we analysize the mobility characteristics of DIIMM, compared to RWP(Random Waypoint Mobility model) and RPGM(Reference Point Group Mobility model). Furthmore, by variable parameter settings, the relationship between mobility models and topology changes is shown, which indicates the method of proper use of mobility models.(3) On the Extension of mobility models access interface and trace data analyse module of ns-2 simulatior, a network platform for mobility models is built to analyse its influence on the performance of different routing protocols of different mobility models. Simulation results demonstrate that DIIMM is a proper choice of providing realistic mobile scenerios of network simulations and performance evaluations.
