Abstract


This article explores the deep relations between the handling of frontier line and portrait oil painting style ,dealing with the use of light and color in a painting by summarizing the different theories regarding the ways of handling the portrait painted by oil painting masters of different eras .The article also lists some classical painting conventions in handling frontier line and further emphasizes the ability use of frontier line artistic style and express the painters’feelings .Lastly ,understanding conventions in use of frontier line in portrait oil painting can help us better understand the painting styles of different artists throughout the ages.
