Abstract

The literary biography since its birth attract numerous readers and critics. These biographies, the author of the literary works from behind the scenes to push to the fore. In recent years, however, the writers in the writing of the works of the genre, adding more fictional and imaginary component. The increasingly blurred lines between reality and fiction. This article by Julian Barnes, \These two novels, both similarities and different from each other, both contemporary writers portray a century ago, the late writer, while the former has the characteristics of the postmodern novel, the latter is more traditional. By comparative analysis of the two works, this article attempts to explore the narrative features of contemporary literary biography, views and attitudes which reflected the historical narrative. For two narrative content and narrative way, it is not difficult to find a fictional biography of an exercise of the constructed literary works based on subjective perspectives and intentions. First of all, the content of the biography is no longer loyal to the reality, no longer even logical. Of personal needs, to choose to include the contents of the text. Second, after selecting the content, the author further need to select the appropriate narrative to describe the content. Narrative rather than objective carrier, even if it is the same content, different narrative way, the effect is also very different. For example, the contemporary writer to break the conventions of traditional biography writing, no longer hidden in the text outside, but selective walk through the text between the subjective views into this should be an objective biography, text construct and subjective. Similarly, the text is not simply about the biography of objects, they also authors construct their own mirror. Previous studies are often based on a strong sense of personal needs, in the text can be found, of resorting to previous experiences, hopes to find an answer for the plight of contemporary culture. Apart from the subjective construction characteristics of the text, two novels also reveals the contemporary cultural context of crisis and sense of historical narrative of the show. Although the text is largely controlled by the subjective intent of the author, but any text can not get rid of a certain social and historical shackles, which inevitably reflect the cultural status quo. Literary creation that shares a passion for narrative history of the individual is not a passive water. Through the life experiences of others in the moment, eager to get rid of the sense of personal insignificance and limitations for reality unrest, the collapse of the belief system, have contributed to the the idealized history we seek a sense of security and life answer. Often been ignored, however, the historical fact, are not part of the true scope, but belongs to the language, any historical expression must be achieved through language. The relationship between the language system itself and the signifier and the signified is not static always stable. Language by external factors such as a particular social, historical periods, and personal perspective, can not exist independent of the value system outside. History in the traditional sense, such as authentic, have been subverted. Two works, however, also tells us that history is not in itself does not exist, but the historical image of the so-called objective reality is only our good wishes of any historical narrative with subjective, as the recipient must have their own Construction and principles and avoid induced by other ideologies. All sorts of historical narrative lead us closer and closer to the truth, and the truth about the past, however, never completely in our hands.
