Abstract


The rules of the US party nomination in presidential election have witnessed a relatively long period of development.Now they have become an important part of contemporary democratic institution of the US.Forms of party nomination can be broadly classified as primary,caucus and mixture.The rules of the nomination bear two characters:firstly,different states have different rules;secondly,the process of party nomination is usually identical with the election for the delegates qualified to attend the party’s national convention.Now the rules of party nomination have become problematic in areas such as super delegates,the distribution of delegates and voting system.Hence there appear a variety of reform plans such as instant-runoff voting and national preprimary convention.However,although the current rules,compared with old-day rules,are more reasonable,it is difficult to evaluate the current rules and to reform due to some theoretical and realistic reasons.
