A Resting State Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Study on the First-degree Relatives of Schizophrenia

Abstract


Objective : Using functional magnetic resonance techniques (functional magnetic resonance imaging, fMRI), investigate the existence of relatives of patients with schizophrenia a resting state of brain dysfunction and abnormal brain function regional location . Methods: 13 cases comply with the fourth edition of the United States and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Diagnosticand statistical manual, fourth edition DSM-IV) diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia countrymen for the study group , 13 patients with schizophrenia compatriots age, gender , years of education matched healthy normal control group , both groups performed resting state blood oxygen level dependent (blood oxygen level dependent, BOLD) functional brain imaging . Using statistical parametric mapping (statistical parametric mapping, SPM2) by head motion detection, baseline drift , after spatial normalization and Gaussian smoothing consistent with local (regional homogeneity, ReHo) approach to fMRI data . To compare the first-degree relatives of schizophrenia and normal controls in the resting state of the brain function differences, the two groups obtained by ReHo KCC (Kendall coefficient concordance) image voxels corresponding position one by one two-sample t-test . Results: Compared with normal first-degree relatives of schizophrenia in the resting state of the brain BOLD signal ReHo generally lower (P <0.005). ReHo lower brain areas have bilateral middle frontal gyrus , superior temporal gyrus , cingulate gyrus , cerebellar tonsils ; the left inferior frontal gyrus , inferior parietal lobule , middle dorsal prefrontal cortex ; right middle frontal gyrus and dorsal prefrontal Central cortex . ReHo higher brain areas have the right precuneus and superior temporal gyrus . Conclusion: first-degree relatives of schizophrenia exists in the resting state of brain dysfunction . Resting blood oxygen level dependent fMRI will become an important research tool for schizophrenia .
