Post-traumatic Stress Disorder is short for PTSD, refers to the threat of extraordinary or catastrophic events of the psychological trauma the individual suffered from, which is stemmed from the continuous strong mental disorders, lasts a month at least, makes the individual feel bitter and recollect repeatedly, their continuous alert be on increase and repeated avoiding behavior come into being, and even affects the individual’s social function, etc. PTSD affects the patients in many aspects, such as their body, mental, willpower, study ability, working ability and social interpersonal relationship with other people, and even decreases their living quality. After the 5.12 earthquake, the National Education Department made a decision to postpone the college entrance examination of the earthquake areas. College students are the main force of future development of the country, but what are the influences of the earthquake upon their mental health? The paper used Post-traumatic Stress Disorder Self-rating Scale (PTSD-SS), Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS) and Coping Style Scale (coping style scale) to research PTSD conditions of 512 freshmen from the earthquake areas, and its relationship with social support and coping style. The results were as follows:(1)The occurring rate of PTSD is 16.79%.The main factors which have the greatest impact to the PTSD symptom is age, the students themselves whether injured or not in the disaster , the students’subjective feeling of social support, especially their friends’ support and other supports, the students’ individual coping style, especially the self-accusation, fantasy, escape, rationalization, problem-solving, etc. 22.5% of PTSD causes are age, whether the students themselves injured, whether their relatives injured, the coping styles of self-accusation and fantasy.(2)The occurrence of PTSD is not different between male and female.(3)The occurrence of PTSD is different among ages. The students above 20 years old have higher incidence of PTSD than others.(4)Whether the students themselves injured, whether their relatives injured is the high risk of causing PTSD. The occurrence rate of PTSD of the students from postsecondary specialized colleges is higher than the students from colleges and universities. (5) Social support has a significantly negative correlation with PTSD. For the students whose PTSD occurred, their supports out of family—their friends’ support and other supports are significantly lower than those of the students whose PTSD did not occur, but there are no significant differences in their family support.(6)The coping styles, such as self-accusation, fantasy, escape and rationalization have significantly positive correlations with the occurrence of PTSD, and have significantly negative correlations with problem-solving, but have little correlation with help-seeking.
