Abstract


The old industrial base is an industrial cluster region or city which was formed in the long term of industrial development. The old industrial bases for strategic intention were set up by the strength of government, in Chinese traditional system. They play an important role in the development of the industry. Though the old industrial bases have left behind, they still have many relative advantages. The evolution of path dependence of Lanzhou old industrial base shows that, there are some phenomena of path dependences in the old industrial base: development and utilization of resources, state-owned enterprise reform, upgrading of industrial technology, industrial cluster and so on. The path dependences on the economic development of Lanzhou have some negative effects. This thesis is supported by the theory of path dependence. It adopts methods of the combination of institution, structure and performance, of theoretical and empirical analysis and of historical analysis and comparative analysis. Firstly, this thesis constructs the theoretical framework of path dependence, then, researches the performance of path dependence in Lanzhou old industrial base. Secondly, it researches on the formation of path dependence from initial conditions and historical events, social cost of the path conversion, self-strengthen, rigid institution environment, interest groups and cognitive lock. The last, this thesis shows the implementation path of reformation of Lanzhou old industrial base. With space and system perspective, Lanzhou old industrial base should break original path dependence by state-owned enterprise reform and industrial cluster.
