Abstract

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is one of the most widely used spectroscopic techniques. Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) is such a technique that by the molecular design for specific self-assembly purpose, we can realize the aim to control with the SAMs’composition, structure as well as the surface function for the specific purpose. In this research, the SERS technique was used to obtain the information about the characteristics of conformation and surface property of leucine and isoleucine SAMs adsorbed at roughened silver surface when the pH value of the solution was changed or electrode potential was shifted. The surface acid-base properties of the isoleucine SAMs were also analyzed and characterized by means of SERS titration method, in which perchlorate ion was used as a spectroscopic probe. In addition, we also used the SERS technique to investigate the adsorption and stability of azurin molecules when they were immobilized at SAMs with different structures and surface properties.
