Autogenous Rib Grafts for Reconstruction of Chest Wall after Manubrium Sterni Tumor Resection: 4 Cases Analysis

Abstract


Objective:We reviewed four cases, who had received manubrium sterni tumor resection and simultaneous chest wall reconstruction, to summarize the experience and and the literatures were reviewed.Methods and Results:From September 2007 to July 2009, four adults with manubrium sterni tumor were collected,1 male,3 females. They all received chest wall reconstruction with autogenous rib Grafts after manubrium sterni tumor resection. Drainage tube was placed at operative site in all patients. Pathological results:One Benign tumor:proliferation of lamellar bone, two malignant tumors:Chondrosarcoma, and malignant lymphoma.One Benign tumor with malignant component:enchondroma with:arcomatoid change.There were no perioperative deaths and early postoperative complications. The median hospitalization was 22.7 days and postoperative hospital stay was 14 days. Remove drainage tube in 4 days averagely. There were nothing abnormal detected after operation.Conclusions:Manubrium sterni tumor resection followed by chest wall reconstruction with autogenous ribs is considered to be a safe and effective treatment for reserving integrity and stability of chest wall.
