Abstract


Objective:To diagnosis the iliac vein compression syndrome (ICS), and to evaluate the effective of endovascular treatment of ICS.Methods:From 2007 to 2010,25 patients (16 women,9 men) presented with clinical and imaging findings consistent with ICS. All patients were evaluated and diagnosised with venography.Among them,13 with Doppler ultrasound(DUS), and 11 with computed tomography venography(CTV). Seventeen patients were received implanted endovascular stent, with angioplasty before the stent, and 3 received thrombolysis before endovascular treatment;8 patients were not received endovascular treatment,and 2 of 8 with simple vein thrombolysis.Results:Despite the presence of stenosis or occlusion in all cases, DUS revealed unilateral iliofemoral vein compression in omly 3 of 13 patients, whereas 9 of 11 CTV studies were compression. Recanalization,angioplasty and stent placement were done in 17 patients. The primary patency rate demonstrated with venography after the operation was 100% in 17 patiernts,and with CTV at 6 months was 84.6% in 13 patients respectively. Conclusions:Computed tomography venography(CTV) demonstrates higher sensitivity than that of Doppler ultrasound(DUS) in the diagnosis of ICS. And venography is gold standard still. Endovascular stenting and angioplasty were proved to be the safe and effective treatment of symptomatic ICS in early and intermediate-term.
