Abstract


Fear and anxiety comes from living in a primitive memory, both past and present, have been rooted in the human psyche, and performance in ancient Chinese fantasy novel, it is unique in the horror theme. The theme of terror as the manifestations of short fantasy novel on the horizon starting from the Wei through the Tang, Song, Yuan’s growth and development, and eventually reach maturity in the Ming and Qing period, and produced some classic works of the later generations of the same type of literature had a significant impact. Although the history of Chinese ancient fiction, horror theme has been the marginalization, it still shows strong vitality, and more and more attention in modern society.In this paper, the ancient Chinese fantasy novel in the horror short theme of research objectives, the general situation on the mastery of such works, development and evolution of the sort, and the unique imagery and narrative mode of analysis, from folklore, psychology and human culture angle re-examine what was the subject of academic neglect, and it generates insight into the underlying causes. Paper is divided into three parts. The first part of the first ancient Chinese fantasy novel into monsters in the horror theme of human abuse, bad signs and three categories for the Buddhist missionary; which ghosts against the theme of human development in the long course of, derived from multiple branches, the body’s own interpretation, not in this speech. Secondly, the ancient Chinese fantasy novel will be the theme of development in the context of terror had largely sorted:sprouting and the foundation before the Tang period; Tang, Song and Yuan period is the development and mutation; is mature and peak during the Ming and Qing. The second part of the body based on the novel to the text of the expression of terror and anxiety, the use of folklore, theory of human culture, the story of the death of terrorist imagery, supernatural imagery, animal imagery, female image and color image for interpretation; and outlines the basic narrative patterns horror story:time and space specific setting, the terrorist situation in the multi-dimensional performance of the omniscient narrative alternating with limited knowledge,the story closed and open forms. The third part of the application of psychological principles to the horror story of the creation and acceptance of psychological motivation was discussed.In fact, whether writing or reading horror stories are, for the hidden heart of fear and anxiety of expression and ease.
