Abstract


Based upon the entry of Thunder God recorded in A New Encyclopedia of Guangdong, this paper investigates a series of evolution of Thunder God’s image in Leizhou (Guangdong) and studies it from the perspective of folklore to search for the origin of the development of Thunder God in Leizhou. And the result is that folk customs of legendary Thunder God of Leizhou are similar to that of Dong Yi. Besides, the combination of local native folklore and foreign migrated folk-custom bequeathed has contributed to the diversity of folklore elements of the legend of Thunder God of Leizhou, which belongs to folkloric bequeath. Moreover, the viewpoint that all things have souls has rooted in the mind of ancient people, which can be considered as the deep psychological factor. These are available from the A New Encyclopedia of Guangdong, this book documents the wealth of folk materials.There are lots of valuable folkloric materials in A New Encyclopedia of Guangdong. Qu Dajun are absorbing, the legend of Leizhou Raytheon did order summary, and noted that Raytheon’s unique local characteristics Leizhou on rock mines, which the original understanding of the Guangdong People’s faith has done a very good accumulation theory.As its writer, Qu Dajun has the concept of modern folklore studies and professional sentiment. The style, diction and content corroborate its positon as a masterpiece of folklore while Qu is a rare and significant expert on folklore in history.
