Empirical Analysis of the Influence of Patent Protection on Innovative Activity in China’s High Technology Industries

Abstract


In recent years, international patent protection has improved continuously, our patent protection have been strengthened. For domestic and foreign patent protection for innovative activities to enhance the impact of quite controversial, this effect vary by country, industry, time varies. In this paper, the most advanced methods - modified GP index, measured the intensity index of patent protection, the use of 17 three coding tech industry from 1995 to 2007 13 years of panel data, empirical test of patent protection for different levels of high-tech industry innovation (own innovation, improvement or imitative innovation) inputs, outputs and impacts of innovation efficiency and further analyze the reasons for this impact that patent protection will promote own innovation and improvement or reduction imitative innovation. Paper is divided into five sections: Introduction This paper first introduces the research background and significance of patent protection system by induction controversy defined scope of this paper, the author's account of research ideas and methods, defining the most important concepts in this article two : patent protection and technological innovation, pointed out to the two measurement methods; second chapter is the literature review, an overview of the relevant domestic and analysis of theoretical and empirical progress; Chapter III analyzes of patents from 1995 to 2007 protection strength and high-tech industry innovation activity changes. In reviewing the new Chinese patent law implementation and modification process, integrated foreign scholars founded GP methods and improvement of domestic scholars, with a series of indicators of the level of patent protection were quantified, calculated 13 years of patent protection intensity index. Hypothesis 1: Strength of patent protection and high-tech industries RD internal expenditures significantly positive correlation; assuming two: Patent protection strength high-tech industry has a number of patents, new product sales there is a significant positive impact; Hypothesis 3: Patent Protection strength on innovation efficiency of high-tech industry had no significant effect. The fourth chapter in the classical model of foreign-related correction, based on the establishment of three regression equations, select the appropriate paper data used to control variables, empirical patent protection strength and innovation of high-tech industry input, output and innovation efficiency the relationship between the proposed chapter to test three hypotheses is established to reveal the patent protection and innovation activities that may exist between the in-depth association. Chapter V is the conclusion. Empirical results do not support the hypothesis one, indicates that China's high-tech industry, RD Intramural expenditure and patent protection a significant negative correlation between the intensity, fundamental and applied research and patent protection Internal Expenditures intensity positively correlated, as basic research and applied research funding for R \u0026 D in general, a smaller proportion, strengthen patent protection of China's high-tech industry to reduce the overall R \u0026 D investment. Suppose two nor established patent protection for our high-tech industry, the impact of innovation and patent output intensity change with the speed of the relevant patent protection, patent protection and patent output intensity index growth rate between showing a \2007, mostly in \Patent protection and high-tech industry, new product sales revenue is inverted \Strengthening patent protection will promote homemade sex patent output increase, decrease or imitative improved patent output, China's high-tech industry, the proportion of small own innovation activities, strengthen patent protection reduces innovation patent output. The results also show that patent protection on China's high-tech industry, had no significant impact on innovation efficiency, assuming three established, indicating that no direct correlation between the two, but the impact of patent protection through competition in the industry and market structure has an indirect effect on innovation efficiency. Finally, we believe that we need a strong patent protection, in order to improve the high-tech industry's own high level of innovation in the proportion of the whole innovation activities, to enhance China's capability of independent innovation, continue to promote technological progress.
