Abstract


In the post-Cold Warworld, the use of the concept "diaspora" is becoming quite broad. We could find it in many disciplines such as anthropology, literature research and critics and so on. Generally speaking, "Diaspora" is used to describe communities that possess certain ethnic characteristics and maintain some kinds of relationships with their homelands. As a "transnational community", they are engaged in various types of activities and interactions across borders, connecting them to two or more societies (state) simultaneously. The main aim of this thesis is to explore the issue of diaspora and the homeland diplomacy. On the basis of the definition of the word "diaspora", the article analyzes the influences of the Armenian diaspora to the Armenian diplomacy, and point out the ways in which the Armenian diaspora influences the diplomacy of Armenia and the dispute between the two parts. Furthermore, there is a conclusion that the dispute is the contradictions of the nation identity and the state identity between the two parts. At last, the article proposed that the role of the dispora should not be an interveners but a policy adviser and information provider.The followings are the general structure of the thesis. Introduction will provide with the outline of the status quo of the diaspora study. Chapter one will see some investigations to clarify the chinese translation and meaning of the term "diaspora" which is crucial to the thesis. Chapter two will depict the history of the Armenia and the dispersion course of the Armenia diaspora. Chapter three will give the analysis about the Armenia diaspora and the diplomacy of Armenia, which includes the way Armenia diaspora could influent the diplomacy of Armenia, the conflict of the behavior of the Armenia diaspora and the state interest of Armenia, and pointed out the reason for the conflict is the difference of the identity between the Armenia disport and the Armenia or the Armenian in homeland. At the end, I propose that the role diaspora should play in Armenian diplomacy should be an policy adviser and information provider rather than a policy intervener. The last part is the conclusion which is a summary to the thesis.
