Abstract


Objective:(1) Measuring in parallel the serum levels and gene transcription level, to observe the association between effect of Ginkgo Biloba Extract for Tardive Dyskinesia and S100B.(2) Comparing S100B changes before and after the treatment of Ginkgo biloba extract, to understand the role of S100B protain in pathogeny of Tardive Dyskinesia.(3) Comparing differences between three gene types of S100B gene,to confirm the susceptibility gene of Tardive Dyskinesia.Method:The subjects were 152 patients who met the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia and Tardive Dyskinesia diagnostic criteria by Schooler and Kane. Detecting the serum level and Single nucleotide polymorphism of S100B through enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assay and fragment length polymorphisms, assessing the Positive and Negative Syndrome and Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale. All data analyses were conducted using SPSS13.0 for Windows.Results:The mean age and disease duration of patients are selectively 45.33±7.10 and 23.36±6.92 years,there is a significant difference in reductive ratio of AIMS total scores between EGB group and control group;No significant difference in reductive ratio of PANSS total score between EGB group and control group. The results indicated that patients with TD had higher serum S100B levels of EGB group than control group, and gene of S100B is one of the susceptibility gene about TD.Conclusion:Ginkgo biloba extract has a great effect in treatment of tardive dykinesia on the recovery of movement disorder. Meanwhile serum S100B level were positively correlated with AIMS scores in patients with TD. These data suggest that decreased S100B levels may be related to neuro- restoration, associated with TD pathophysiology, and the S100B gene has great relativity with the attack of TD.
