Abstract


Objective:To study the expression of Galectin-3 and MMP-9 and their relationship in breast carcinoma.Methods:Expression of Galectin-3 and MMP-9 was detected by immunohistochem-. istry method in 80 breast carcinoma samples and was compared with that respectively in 20 benign tumors.Results:Expression of Galectin-3 was detected in a significantly greater proportion in breast carcinoma than in benign tumors (P<0.05).The up-regulation of the expres-sion of Galectin-3 was related to differentiation and TNM stages (P<0.05) and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05).The expression of Galectin-3 was related to that of MMP-9 in breast cancer (P<0.05).Conclusion:Expression of Galectin-3 was increased in breast carcinoma. Up-expres-sion of Galectin-3 was useful for evaluating malignancy degree invasion and metasta-sis of breast carcinoma; Up-expression of MMP-9 increased the expression of Galectin-3 and might play an important role in the metastasis and invasion of breast carcinoma.
