Abstract

Resistance training is an effect method of improving fitness, which means that it can get muscle volume and strength increased. There are vary ways to perform resistance training, of which can be divided into two fundamentally-Traditional Resistance Exercise(TRE) and Variable Resistance Training(VRT). Dumbbells and Elastic bands are respectively the optimal one in two training ways. They are readily accessible, inexpensive, and udersized devices that may be used by people in almost any setting. The training load of dumbbells originated their weight, which are consistent in the motivation; In other ways, elastic band that has a kinematic character of high-elasticity in the substance of rubber, can generate force when we stretch to make its shape changed, and the force become the load for our training. Therefore, resistance training using dumbbells and elastic band may have a different performance in the muscle functionThe 19 students (male 10, female 9) in Beijing Sport University were the study objects. They would flex their elbows respectively using dumbbells and elastic band with the load intensity of 1RM、8RM and 15RM, and at the same time we got the data by the Megwin 6000. After analyzing the data, we concluded as followed:(1) The pattern of muscle fibers recruitment between TRE and VRT is different. There is more quantity of muscle fibers recruitment using the dumbbells than using the elastic band, and the former is earlier and faster in the concentric contraction. It is reverse in the eccentric contraction.(2) The work loading of mover muscle is different in the same load intensity between TRE and VRT. The prime mover muscle makes a greater work using the elastic band than using the dumbbells.
