Under the restriction of global two difficult problems, namely energy crisis and environmental pollution, Electric Vehicle (EV) that has advantages of low noise, zero emission, fall use of the energy and so on, is recognized as the main direction on improvement and development of automobile industry in the 21st century. In recent years, research and development of EV in lab has gradually transformed into batch production, and the styling design of EV is becoming the significant research direction.This paper focused on the process of the electric sightseeing vehicle styling design. It briefly introduced the history, classification and characteristics of EV, and analyzed its present situation of research fields, styling design and correlative process at home and abroad.A general process of EV styling design was inducted. Based on the general process, the paper analyzed some factors causing it to change, which included: the key technologies of EV, production scale of enterprise, body materials, styling design experience and methods of EV, and quality of related stuff, etc. considering these factors, a process of EV styling design suitable for the batch production was put forwards. Its main features includes: capture market demand and emphasize on market study, strengthen innovative design and enrich design proposal, simplify modeling phase and select model materials reasonably, properly apply computer aided design, and develop design review in key link.At last, according to this process, a sightseeing electric vehicle EG6117 was designed and produced in Suzhou Eagle Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Co., Ltd. The practice has proved this process is reasonable and effective. Through summarizing, some parts of the process has been further improved, so that the material technique of enterprise can be fully used to promote design quality, reduce development cost and cycle, upgrade the products, thus, popularize the green environmental protection vehicle, and to realize sustainable development in automobile industry.
