Abstract


Marsilea quadrifolia image is one of important plant Images in the ancient Chinese literature. It was originated from The Book of Songs,and was incorporated into vanilla system in The Songs of Chu" .After the development of the Wei and Jin Dynasties, in the Tang and Song dynasties, it has become a common image. Not only itself be observed, and formed a symbol of the emotional connotations of Personality.It was obviously affected by "The Book of Songs" and "The Songs of Chu" in development of literature. That in "The Book of Songs", the woman gathers Marsilea quadrifolia is to worship their ancestors by a preparatory activities.It’s nature gentle and agreeable has produced fixed connection with clean between the woman, also became a symbol of fine quality of woman. at the same time ,《gather Marsilea quadrifolia》has also been given to the symbol significance following gift to abide by the law in ceremonial music system. "Songs of the South" as not only laid a foundation for the Jiangnan Heritage, and its aroma, color, shape and other natural beauty of identifying began to be heard. Gather Marsilea quadrifolia also from a purely agricultural activities to the activities of the literati Grass picking changes.
