Abstract

With the rapid development of modern society, of industrial, synthetic surfactants are widely used in production, such as washing and leather, much of which residues in the environment, causing increasingly serious environmental pollution. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (sodium dodecyl sulfate SDS) as the most common anionic surfactant, its impact on the environment can not be ignored. It is an economic and efficient means to degrade pollutants with microbials. Therefore, the separation and characterization of sodium dodecyl sulfate degrading strain hold great significance.Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) is a commonly used anionic surfactant can be found in all kinds of detergents and decontamination powder. SDS has relatively low persistency in the environment; however, the great biological toxicity of SDS can not be ignored due to its widespread use. Bioremediation is an effective and economic method to treat the environment that has been polluted by SDS. So researchers paid more attention to the point. Most of this research focus on the isolating, identifying and characterizing bacteria with abilities to degrade SDS.The article choose Sang Garment Co., Ltd. Hunan wastewater Heidi Reiter’s wastewater for the study. A bacterial strain SDSP21 that can survive in the medium with sodium dodecyl sulfate as sole carbon source was isolated in tannery wastewater firstly. We made a preliminary identification that strain SDSP21 is a new species through the observation of morphological characteristics and physiological and biochemical tests, combined with 16SrRNA sequence analysis. SDSP21 was proved to be Actinobacterium (Actinobacterium sp.) and was the most similar to Actinobacterium C46-Indonesia, the similarity was above 99%. For the purpose of promoting the bacterial strain SDSP21’s degrading ability, SDS was used as inducing chemical to acclimate the degrading ability of the strain. After several times of culturing, strain SDSP21’s degrading abilities were greatly promoted from 50 mg·L-1 to 400 mg·L-1. Inoculated 2% of SDSP21 solution, to give a final OD600 of approximately 0.5, to sodium dodecyl sulfate solution that initial concentration was 400 mg·L-1, degradation test showed that, the degradation rate of strain SDSP21 was 90% within 72h, the optimum temperature is 30℃while the optimum pH is about 7-8, calcium ion and divalent copper, organic nitrogen and natural organic matter can greatly accelerate bacterial degradation of sodium dodecyl sulfate. The results lay solid foundation for further research of environmental remediation with micro-organisms in the future.
