Abstract

Owing to the quite different quantum confinement energies, one-dimensional nanostructures present some novel optical properties different from zero-dimensional nanostructures. They have been extensively used in life sciences, analytical sciences, material science, and immune medicine. In this thesis, CdTe and CdHgTe nanorods were synthesized based on literatures firstly. Then the analytical applications of the CdTe nanorods in some sensing fields were studied. Also, the preliminary investigation on the interaction between CdHgTe nanorods with some metal ions was performed. This thesis consists of five chapters summarized in the following:In chapter 1, reviews were given firstly on the properties and application of QDs in fluorescence analysis and the synthetic methods of 1D semiconductor materials. The novel optical properties and potential applications of 1D semiconductor materials were discussed. Finally, the content and tentative plan for this thesis was presented. In chapter 2, according to literatures, highly luminescent water-soluble CdTe nanorods were synthesized in one step. Also, water-soluble NIR emitting CdHgTe nanorods were synthesized by means of a facile doping. Both CdTe nanorods and CdHgTe nanorods were characterized by TEM and other optical techniques. In chapter 3, the interaction between CTAB and CdTe nanorods was investigated. The fluorescence quenching of CdTe nanorods in the presence of CTAB was observed. A novel fluorescence quenching method for the determination of CTAB has been developed. Also the quenching mechanism was discussed in detail. In chapter 4, the interaction between HSA and CdTe nanorods was investigated. It was found that HSA could enhance the luminescence of CdTe nanorods. Under optimum conditions, the fluorescence intensity versus HSA concentration displays a good linear relationship. Based on the phenomenon, a fluorescence enhancing method for the determination of HSA has been established. In chapter 5, the interaction between Cu2+ and CdHgTe nanorods was investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy. The results show that the NIR emission at 722 nm could be significantly quenched by copper (II) ions. And the fluorescence intensity versus copper (II) ions concentration ranging from 8×10-9 to 1.0×10-6 mol/L displays a good linear relationship. Meanwhile, other physiologically important cations, including Zn2+, Fe3+, Co2+, Mn2+, Cd2+ and Mg2+, were found to scarcely affect the fluorescence emission of the CdHgTe nanorods. Therefore, a simple NIR detection method for copper (II) ion was developed using the CdHgTe nanorods as probe. The present method with high sensitivity and selectivity was further applied to the determination of copper (II) ions in real samples with satisfactory results.
