Engaged in education and understanding of the people know that the test will give teaching some impact, the impact on the education sector and the field of linguistics called \In China, due to the special features of the examination, this effect is particularly significant. Backwash effect can be divided into \Negative backwash effect of testing on teaching the negative role and influence. CET (hereinafter referred to as the CET-4) as a unified national large-scale English test, since 1987 has been officially put, after several reforms, has been recognized by all sectors of the domestic. However, large-scale standardized tests are a double-edged sword, CET-4 Teaching English in China is a huge positive effects, but also because of their problems in a more or less negative impact, that is, negative backwash effect. In this paper, based on the theory of backwash effect, analysis of the data obtained by questionnaires, interviews and classroom observation, draw some useful conclusions. This thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter introduces the background and significance of the research carried out. Chapter II backwash effect definition, working principle, classification, as well as domestic and foreign backwash effect Research were reviewed. The third chapter introduces the study carried out by methods (including literature analysis, access to the questionnaire and classroom observation), the information-gathering process and research findings. Chapter IV results of the survey were analyzed, pointed out the existing problems in the CET-4. In the fifth chapter, Chapter mentioned mention suggestions for improvement and strategies. Chapter VI made a summary of the full text. The survey results show that, in spite of continuous improvement, CET-4 has been further improved, resulting in a more positive backwash effect, but the CET-4 is still on the macro and micro negative backwash effect can not be ignored. Macro, CET-4 so that society and schools on the CET-4 scores over-emphasis on examination-oriented education still exists; micro, CET-4 test content restrictions college English teachers and students to learn English, they reduce motivation to learn English, and not really to promote the improvement of students' English communication skills. CET-4 negative backwash effect analysis, the paper argues that the CET-4 still has the following problems: (1) CET-4 Reform of limitations; (2) lack of diversity of test content, test form rigid ; (3) the role of the CET-4 performance assessment using too simple. To solve these problems, this paper proposed to establish a scientific, objective English teaching system to establish a correct understanding of the people on the CET-4, to improve the CET-4 papers design, perfect CET-4 assessment of the role and the popularity of oral test, to further optimize the CET-4 .
