Abstract

Nano-materials have gained extensive research and attention due to their novel physical and chemical properties which are not found from their corresbonding bulk materials. In the study completed, several kinds of nanostructures have been synthesized in different routes: synthesis of SnO2 nano-wires by physical vapor depositon (PVD); synthesis of nano-SnO2 hollow spheres by template synthesis; synthesis of SnO2 nano-particles by low temperature combustion synthesis (LTCS). And the best process conditions of the synthesize routes above have been found, through analysis and discussion of morphology and structure of the samples. We use fluorometer to test the luminescence properties of the samples, and found that:In the luminescence test of SnO2 nano-wires, we found temperature is an important parameter which corresponds the luminescence properties of samples. The impact of temperature is not a simply ascending or descending relationship, and there is an optimal temperature in a certain range, which make the sample perform its maximum luminous efficiency. Through the analysis of the results, we have identified the range.Through testing the luminescence properties among different structures, such as ordinary powder, nano-spheres and hollow spheres, we found that the appearance of nano-particles have a significant impact to their luminescence properties. And through theoretical qualitative analysis, we have determined the reasons leading to such differences. In addition, there is a relationship between doping concentration and the luminescence properties of samples, which is discovered in the luminescence test of SnO2 nanosphere doped with Eu3+. When the doping concentration is low, the wavelength of excitation light is mainly 590nm which is produced by the 5D0-7F1 transition. While the doping concentration gradually increase, the content of the excitation light with a wavelength 610nm produced by the 5D0-7F2 transition also increase gradually. And we have realized the factors that bring about this change by analyzing energy band structure of the samples. The researches about nano-materials with metal oxide matrix is currently a hot research direction, and many literatures about their specific morphology have issued. In this paper, luminescence properties of some simple SnO2 nano-structures and their corresponding dopants have been researched. And some more complex researches can be done in near future.
