Abstract


Benefit from the economic fast growing. Chinese waterfront residential areas become to be hot developing area. Since there are lacks of guide of urban planning theory in this specific field, there are serial of weakness appeared contemporary. Such as lack of continuity with surrounding, enclose to its own environment, waste land and water resource, reduce the communication chance and space for residence etc. As a special urban open space, this dissertation base on the theory of sustainable development and methodology of urban design to study the relevant key urban morphology of urban waterfront residential area. Four cases studies are being used to illustrate this concept and a comparative analysis will bring about the recommendations in creating a theoretical framework for the development of the sustainable urban form of waterfront residential area. And then through a real waterfront residential area project’s to test this framework. And in the last chapter this dissertation summaries the sustainable urban morphology from the different aspect of economic, ecological, society and technology.
