Abstract

Literature is a peculiar pattern of culture for human beings. Appreciation is literature’s essential property. And it’s the unity of the true, the good and the beautiful. The writer creates potential value of literature, which will not be achieved without the reader. Hence, the reader is the principle part for the achieving of the value of literature. And it is the literary dissemination that is the social intermediary to make literature near to the reader and the value of literature achieved. Only through some dissemination can literature contact the reader and then achieve its own value.As a carrier, media, in the course of the development of literature and in different phase, has fundamental significance on literature. It determines the basic content pattern of literary existence, text form, related literary idea and literary activities. However, as the social context changes entirely, media of literary dissemination also changes from the times of colloquial media and written media to the times of modern visual media. People contact literature by images of visual sense instead of reading books. And more and more they clearly learn that media not only change the world by the information and content disseminated, but also become an indispensable medium between human beings and the world. That is to say, media’s formal structure and functional effect decidedly changes the world, and then changes the form of literature. And then Miller sent out a warning: Literature is going to the end. During the long history, literature had lied in an incomparably sacred position. But with the times of visual media’s coming, literature’s elegance and elaboration are broken somehow.People realize that literature’s reading is gradually far away from human beings. Yet the author in the paper claims that literature’s reading is still not far away from people. The paper, through Harry Potter written by J. K. Rowling, which is a best seller and has a good box-office, proves infiltration of media’s channels and permeation of media’s content and prospects the evolution of cultural ecology of literature in New Era.On one hand, literary divinity is submerged into the pursuit of commercial interests wanted by cultural products. On the other hand, literature goes to everywhere around the world through all kinds of new media which spring up continuously. Hence it is proposed that literature need new self-consciousness under the context of cultural industry, that is, literature possesses property of commodity and property of entertainment. The appearing of various media provides premises for literature to expand its own camp in the new background. Cultural turns of literature are initiated fundamentally because of the development of cultural industry. Cultural industry is the mode of cultural production in modern industry society. The rise of cultural industry makes the relationship between literature and the fields of society complicated and diversified. Changes of literary process under the context of cultural industry directly decompose inner structure of traditional literature. Challenges brought about by such modern media as movies, television and the Internet and being commercial actually are chances of literary existence. The appearing of multi-media provides conditions for literature to expand its camp under the new circumstance. In fact, with the popularity of mass media, literature is not only affected, but also changes itself to adapt to new context controlled by new media. Electronic medium’s enlargement deprives us of ability to experience over the world and puts us in the information interference of accidental scraps. Without language’s abstraction and generalization, there is no scientific culture, and of course no human’s improvement and social development.In the thesis, the author collects literature, references and examples concerning the topic, analyses and sorts out them. And then the author deeply thinks over and consummates the viewpoint. On the basis of this task, the author comprehensively utilizes knowledge and methods of literature, aesthetics, culturology, media studies, etc. Therefore a conclusion is drawn that the study of literature, in the globalization, is closely linked to the study of culture under the context of visual media and literature is close to mass media, so literature might as well be operated as a kind of cultural industry. The important key to the success of the Harry Potter is that it, as a cultural industry, gets well-operated. People, in the visual sense, get shocked through visual media. Meanwhile people can feel the author’s great originality on the series of stories arranged specially in the course of reading books. This is the turn of literature in the new century and generalization of literary development under the context of modern cultural industry.
