Along with the fast development of urban economy and the transform into eidos of the people’s live, "city-quality" is the focus on urban construction, sharing "live-quality" is a common topic. urban waterfron have two properties of natural and artificialof, so it is the most active area in an urban, urban waterfron is the important factor to build "city-quality". the planing and design, development and construction of urban waterfron have been attented to urban’s managerment and design department.This article starts form basic research, it is a systematically exposition of the concept and meaning of urban waterfront, it overviews the development and change of urban waterfront and research the function of urban waterfront, it summarizes the lack and successful experience of urban waterfront in building. In addition, this article studies the case of longquan river landscape planning and design, longquan river is in longquan,zhejiang province, it introduces the concept of urban design, it interprets the overview of longquan city and analyses the status and feature of longquan river’s water space, it proposes the main design principles. it is a comprehensive esposition of the program concept and focus of longquan river landscape planning and design, which froms the macro,meso,micro levels. it is a new planning and design methodogy which has complete and operational content. it is a hope for providing some reference to the domestic urban waterfront landscape planning and design.
