Along with the socio-economic and technological development, the population structure of the world is beginning to change, the ageing of the population has become severe problems the world to face. At present, the planning and design of many turban residential area caused a series of problems in the economy and the society because of neglecting the variety of population structure currently, lacking to consider the live demanding of the old people and to the thorough research of old people’s living condition. Therefore, how to create a comfortable living environment for the old people, satisfy the old people’s need in the aspects, such as physiology, mental state and behavior…etc.,has become an unavoidable and urgent problem to solve.This paper tries hard for from the analysis and research outdoor activities, starting with the elderly, asking for help from the research results of sociology, environmental science, psychology, behavioral science,using the research methods of the theory of urban planning and design, going deep into inside contact and interaction of elderly activities and outdoor environment, strengthening the outdoor environment detail planning and design, that is, the elderly based on the physiological, psychological and behavioral have special needs to outdoor environment tripartite outdoor environment, study simple and basic space planning in detail for the design of the walk, stop, sit, watch, listen to and talk to, fitness etc. By considering the characteristics of the elderly walking, walking speed and distance,this paper Studied the road design, the ramp design and ground design; and by considering standing and sitting on a large number of passive activities in a major characteristic patterns of behaviour, so analyzed the stop and seat design, The elderly retirees has always been accompanied by a sense of loneliness of life and therefore appreciate the natural environment, watching all kinds of scenarios and activities, and human exchanges and fitness as part of their lives. Through study these activities to provide an effective solution to resolve the existing problems. In the design of outdoor environment, we should follow the five major principles of integrity, practical, economical, ecological, coordination to create a pleasant scale, warm image, fresh air, open space and venue, then would it be conducive to strengthening the elderly contact with the social. Finally, in the case of residential areas, through the meticulous treatment of the planning and designing in detail, this plot create a good environment for the elderly which is pleasant, suitable for fitness, entertainment, leisure, exchanges and other outdoor activities.
