Abstract


The United States is the earliest country in carrying on assessment . Its theory and practice are on the leading position in the world. The reason is largely due to its assessment culture. The culture is the soil of system. The education assessment is a cultural process. Therefore, to research the United States’higher education assessment from culture perspective is of great significance.This article contains the following several aspects: first, we describe the background, purpose and significance of this research, and summarize the status of domestic and foreign-related research projects, and determine concepts related to culture and assessment; Next we outlines the American higher education assessment’s development process, especially discuss the US’s Puritan culture, the immigrant culture, the individualism culture, the pragmatism culture, and the mass culture’s influence to its higher education assessment, and obtain the beneficial enlightenment from the analysis, and propose corresponding countermeasure on constructing our country’s higher education assessment culture; Finally we summarize the main conclusion, and point out the questions which wait for further solving.
