Abstract

Tianjin Port lies on the top of the BOHAI estuary, which is the biggest artificial harbour built on the gently muddy beach. Siltation of sediment is one of the most important questiones which needs be studied and solved all the time. SO, it’s tremendously significant to simulate the movement and forecast the deposition of sediment properly of harbor and channel construction. In this paper, a whole hydrodynamic simulation and sediment transport model, which can reflect the mutual action among wind, wave and tidal current, is developed. It can be used to forecast the siltation of harbor engineering and provide reliance for coastal engineering construction. The SWAN wind wave model and the 2-D MIKE21 current model are introduced to calculate the wind wave field and current field firstly.Based on the coupled modeling of wind wave field and current field, the 2-D MIKE21 sediment model is used to simulate sediment transport with interaction of wave and tide current during the process of strong winds and waves. The process of erosion and deposition on the sea bed is also incorporated in the model, so the cohesive sediment transport patterns are revealed well.At last, the model is successfully applied to simulate the siltation of the new ro-ro harbor which lies in Beijiang area of Tianjin Port. After the analysis of the natural conditions of the project, the 2-D numerical models of wind wave, tidal current and sediment are developed and verified by using measured data in site. The computional results can simulate the movement and deposition of sediment in that area and provide helpful data for habor construction and dredging in the future.
