Abstract


During the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the ossified government of the late Qing Dynasty had lost its control interior and faced the invasion from the western colonist’s firm-ship and superior-cannon armed exterior, the government was rarely managing to maintain its feeble existence. So the whole country and the nation were in the new epoch entrance. In such situation, the modern Chinese military theory was also in its historical conversion period. Bingxuexinshu, which published by Xu Jianyin in 1898, was the representative work of this period. Combined with the contents of Bingxuexinshu, the thesis analyzes the book’s modem military thought and expounds its role, status and historical influence in the modern period.The main text of this paper is composed of three parts. The first part introduces the age’s background of Bingxuexinshu and Xu Jianyin’s personal influence in the conforming process of it. The second part mainly reorganizes and analyzes its contents, then explains them with the modern military change theory and excavates the valuable military thought in it, in order to show its role and function in the reforming of modern military theories. The third part produces its evaluation, and points out its limitation and analyzes its historical influence. Finally, the paper gives us an analysis of the valuale and its limited.
