Experimental study of endovascular embolization of the traumatic pseudoaneurysms of common carotid artery with microcoils in rabbits

Abstract

Objective: To establish the model of the rabbit carotid artery traumatic pseudoaneurysm ( TPA ) to micro - coil aneurysm cavity or the parent artery embolization evaluation of long-term treatment effect . Methods: Using microsurgical techniques , burning out of the cave on the right side of the chest triceps in 30 rabbits with bipolar coagulation , and longitudinal incision cave correspond at the right common carotid artery , the mattress suture between the two opening that is made of and connected to the arterial hematoma . The hematoma cavity continued to beat the impact of the parent artery lumen recanalization , the formation of traumatic pseudoaneurysm . 3-4 weeks after the formation of TPA were randomly divided into three groups : control group , the micro- coil ( MC ) tumor cavity embolization group and MC load aneurysm embolization group . 3 months later after the embolization of color Doppler ultrasound and angiography, and specimens for pathological examination . Results: 26 rabbits underwent successful surgery and neck pulsating mass in after 6-12 days , the eight rabbits TPA broken bleeding died after 9-17 days . 3-4 weeks after the remaining 18 rabbits underwent color Doppler ultrasound , two rabbits dissected TPA and whichever pathological examination confirmed the formation of the same human TPA TPA morphological characteristics of blood flow dynamics and pathological changes. Subsequently , on 4 TPA - line MC parent artery embolization ; 9 the TPA line MC tumor cavity embolism , 4 embolism , because the MC off into the parent artery was excluded from the experiment ; 3 rabbits did not receive any treatment as a control, they all died in the observation process TPA bleeding. Embolization 3 months later DSA and color Doppler ultrasound the see the tumor cavity embolism group TPA complete occlusion of the parent artery patency , local anatomical found the the TPA original structure disappeared , replaced by a mass of scar tissue . The parent artery embolization group confirmed as TPA also disappear . Compared with the control group , the parent artery aneurysm cavity embolism showed a significant treatment effect ( P = 0.029 ) . Conclusion: rabbit carotid artery TPA model is an ideal model for TPA endovascular embolization research ; 2 in TPA formation of MC tumor cavity or the parent artery embolization TPA will be given satisfactory results , but the former is not only complete occlusion of the tumor cavity , but also to retain the parent artery patency , its efficacy is superior occlusion of the parent artery .
