Abstract


Vehicle orientation and navigation system is an important part of Intelligent Transport System. Goal of ITS is that we apply advanced technology so that safe and effective traffic running at the same time decreasing jam, reducing pollution and infection of environment. This paper discusses an independent vehicle orientation and navigation system based on module by an example. As an emphasis, talking over digital electric map and digital map database, it is hardcore of this system. Digital map database is must module whatever vehicle orientation and navigation system. With map medium, we can easily carry com- plicated information. Vehicle orientation and navigation system need a database which can hold map matching, route planning, route leadi- ng, map display and display of interested points. Besides navigating and positing equipment, electronic map is mo- st important part. It should possess functions as follows: map display, address matching, map matching, optimal route searching, route na- vigating, and so on. In this paper route planning, route leading, and map matching arithmetic are briefly introduced.
