Maleic anhydride ( MA ) , alanine ( ALN ) , straight-chain alcohols as raw material , to select a suitable solvent , catalyst, improved traditional three-step three - pot synthesis method , the side chain was synthesized by three-step two -pot process both flexible ester - containing group and containing an asymmetric carbon atom of the optically active N- substituted maleimide monomer ( RAM ) , to determine the preferred reaction conditions . To free radical solution polymerization of homo-and copolymerization, the effect on the polymerization solvent , temperature, monomer ratio ; gravimetric determination of the rate of polymerization , the polymerization kinetics . Using ultraviolet ( UV ) , Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) technology has proved that the formation of the charge-transfer complex between the maleimide and styrene (St) of N - ( the а - methyl - butyl - yl - ) Determination complex , complexation equilibrium constant K ; a total polymerization kinetics of the co - polymerization mechanism , and the use of the Lewis - Mayo method obtained by copolymerization of two monomers apparent competition reactivity ratio rBAM = 0.018 , the RST = 0.062 . With ultraviolet spectra ( UV ) , Nuclear Magnetic Resonance ( 1H - NMR ) , differential thermal analysis ( DTA ) , thermogravimetric (TG) of the polymer ( PRAM ) , the structure and properties of the copolymer ( BAM - Co - St ) were characterization . Discussed the length of the side chain ester group of a homopolymer of dissolving properties, thermal properties , the results show that the flexible chain length on the solubility, the initial decomposition temperature , but the glass transition temperature (Tg) is increased with the length of the flexible chain and decreased significantly. The thermal analysis results show that the introduction of comonomer BAM can effectively improve the thermal decomposition temperature of the polymer and the glass transition temperature , i.e. greatly improve the thermal stability of the PSt polystyrene (PSt) .
