According to the theory of treating diseases based on differentiation of symptoms and signs and clinical observation of chronic glomerulo- nephritis(CGN) in all ages, the author points out that the basic pathogenesis are yang or qi deficiency in both the spleen and kidney and blood stasis in the collaterals. The main therapeutic principle for the disease is to strengthen the spleen, nourish the kidney and remove blood stasis from collaterals. Through the analysis of relevant prescriptions of all ages, the author thinks the main ingredients of the prescriptions for the disease should include those to strengthen the spleen, nourish the kidney and remove blood stasis from collaterals, such as drugs for inducing diuresis and excreting dampness,heat-clearing drugs, drugs for regulating qi,interior-warming drugs,drugs for treating exterior syndromes etc.The author also analyzes the most frequently used herds used in these prescriptions. Guided by this theory, MAN SHEN TANG was formulated and used in the treatment of 31 cases of CGN,with its total effective rate of 90.3%,higher than that in the control group.It can effectively relieve the main symptoms and sign and markedly improve the physical and chemical index of CGN,with significant difference from the control group.
