Abstract

Objective:The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the expression of UNC5B and VEGF and the clinicopathological factors of breast cancer through dectecting the expression of Unc5B and VEGF in malignant breast lesion and benign breast lesion.Methods:Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of UNC5B and VEGF in 43 cases of breast cancer and 20 cases of benign breast lesions. The disease-free survival (DFS) of 43 cases of breast cancer patients was observed. The Spearman’s correlation was emlopyed to analyze the correlation between the expression of UNC5B and VEGF and DFS.Results1. UNC5B and VEGF were mainly expressed in cytoplasm of breast lesions. In 43 cases of breast cancer patients, UNC5B was positively expressed in 24 cases (55.82%) and negatively expressed in 19 cases (44.18%); In all 20 cases of benign breast lesions, UNC5B was highly expressed (100% positive).There was statistally difference between the positive expression rate of UNC5B in benign and maligmant lesions (P <0.01)2. In 43 cases of breast cancer,28 cases (65.12%) were positive for VEGF expression,15 cases(34.88%) were negative for VEGF expression; but in 20 cases of benign breast lesions, VEGF were only positively expressed in 2 cases(10%). The positive expression rate of VEGF between benign and malignant lesions were significantly different (P <0.01).3. There was no statistic correlation between the expression of UNC5B and the patients’age, tumor size, clinical stage, histological type, lymph node metastasis and their breast lesion receptor type(P>0.05); For patients with more than 5 years DFS, UNC5B was negatively expressed in 3 (15%) cases, wheras it was positively expressed in 18 (85%) cases; For patients with DFS less than 5 years, UNC5B was negatively expressed in 16 (72.73%)case, wheras it was positively expressed in 6 cases (27.27%). There was positive correlation between the expression of UNC5B and DFS (P<0.05).4. We didn’t find statistic diffence between the expression of VEGF and patients’age, tumor size, clinical stage, histological type and their breast lesion receptor type (P>0.05).We also find that the positive expression rate of VEGF in pateients with lymph node metastasis was 91.67%, which was higher than patients with no lymph node metasasis (P<0.05); For patients with more than 5 years DFS,VEGF was negatively expressed in 12 (57.14%) cases, wheras it was positively expressed in 9 cases(42.86%); For patients with DFS less than 5 years, VEGF was negatively expressed in 3 (17.65%)case, wheras it was positively expressed in 19 cases (82.36%). There was negative correlation between the expression of VEGF and DFS (P<0.05).5、The expression of UNC5B and VEGF in breast cancer was negatively correlated.Conclusion1. UNC5B was highly expressed in benign breast lesions, but the expression rate decreased in breast carcinoma. VEGF expression rate in benign breast disease is extremely low, but was high expressed in breast carcinoma.2. The expression of VEGF was highly related to the lymph node metastasis in breast cancer.3. The expression of UNC5B was positively correlated with 5 years DFS; the expression of VEGF was negatively correlated with 5 years DFS; the expression of VEGF and UNC5B was negatively correlated.
