In recent years, there has been a flourishing development of Chinese language education overseas. It is urge and meaningful for us to discuss how to make the teaching materials which really take into account the learners’own cultural background, local circumstances and local needs. This paper studies how words, texts, grammar points, exercises and Chinese culture are presented in Chinese Link. It explores the characteristics of the materials, noting their advantages and insufficiencies. It makes recommendations to the preparation of future materials which are more targeted for adaptability and practicality for overseas Chinese and publishers.Through analysis, we believe that Chinese Link (elementary) teaching materials have the following characteristics:The teaching materials integrate the "5Cs" principles of Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century:Communication、Cultures、Connections、Comparisons、Communities-in order to help beginners develop their four basic skills of listening、speaking、reading and writing, while gaining communicative competence.First, learning words directly; Second, the texts mainly includes interesting dialogues, supplement texts, which help students have the base for future learning of enlarge vocabulary、Pinyin. Third, grammar points have been explained clearly and systematically. Forth, Exercises are designed in many forms for students to review and consolidation. Finally, Culture chosen is based on both traditional and modern culture, so that students in their studies can have better understanding about Chinese culture.
