Abstract


Yuan Jie is the prominent poet and poetry theorist when Tang dynasty is changing into decline form prosperity. He looks up to Confucian poetry traditional theory as the only criterion. His poetry theory forms a connecting link between the preceding Chen Ziang and Li Bai and the following Yuan Chen and Bai Ju yi, and has the characteristics of turning times. His poetry creation shows drastic tendency of depicting the social life and the suffering of the masses, and lays an example for the creation of Xin Yuefu in the middle of Tang dynasty. He insists that poem should inherit the tradition of "feng and ya" in Shi, exerting its functions of political eduction, and proposes the skill and style of plain and simerity, his poetry not only has the characteristic of reform, in returning to the ancient, but also has the periodical characteristic of shifting from prosperous Tang and zhong Tang, and enlightens the forming of theory xin yue fu by yuan bai, his poems establish examples for the creation of zhong tang’s xin yue fu, with subject and content craftual format, including signing preface before poems. Free metre and plain languages. Yuan Jie obtains two facet of outstanding achievements on poetry theory and creation, which are closely link to the periodical background when he lives, and it is formed by many functors, distinctively, suchas social, thinking and literature and so on. His influence is tremendrous and profound. His poetry theory andcreation not only opens and demonstrates the xin yue fu movement in middle Tang, which is presillent by yuan zhen and bai ju yi, but also promotes the reality thriving of the whole middle Tang’s poem reality style, and at some time does strong influence on later periods’ poem’s creation. He can be named a prominent poet who has the feature of transitional period is unshameful to the repulation of forerunner of xin yue fu movment in middle Tang, the study on Yuan Jie can help us not only comprehend his status and action in Tang poem’s development, but also research the records of the whole Tang poem’s changing.
