Abstract


The transitional region between cropland and grassland is a particular zone, in which planting and animal husbandry are interlaced with each other. Agriculture and pasture interlaced region of Gansu province includes 15 counties that mostly lie on Plateau. It is a region with severe environmental problems such as soil erosion; vegetation degradation, desertification and soil salinization, the decline of carrying capacity of pasture; high frequency of natural calamity, the occurrence of sandstorm sometimes due to natural fragility enhanced by human activities. It is a difficult and important subject how to protect and built the fragile eco-environment, as well as brings about an advance in economy in this area.In the paper, the selected question is in the front field of the cross subjects such as regional economics; agriculture economics and ecological economics etc. The paper regards this area as the research object, uses the quantitative analysis method combined with qualitative analysis, and regards improving the sustainable development level in this area as object. It surveys sustainable development level in this area, appraises and analyses systematically. Make a concrete analysis as follows:Firstly, the paper introduces the natural overview of agriculture and pasture interlaced region of Gansu, ascertains the intension of sustainable development in this area, and appraises the sustainable development level according to qualitative analysis and quantitative angles. As regards quantitative analysis, the paper designs the evaluation index system of sustainable development in this region that includes two sub-goals that are the sustainability and development. Using the evaluation index system, we can calculate the development index and sustainability index of the counties in this region. From the indexes, we can appraise the level of sustainable development, that is to say, the level is in the basically sustainable state.Then, it analyses the reasons that lead the status of development and eco-environment. The reasons include that social and economic development is laggard; the ecological environment is fragile and the ecological carrying capacity is limited; the ecological legislation is imperfect and the consciousness of protecting is lack. Bases on the assessmentand analysis it puts forward the sustainable development mode--eco-economy. The modeembodies the internal signification of sustainable development, and attaches importance to the value of environment, as well as, the mode needs certain system. Finally, it puts forward the using model of eco-economics: agricultural industrialization mode; water-saving economy mode; courtyard economy; mode of grain for green, growing grass and raising domestic animal.
