Abstract

During the last decades, there has been increasing interest in hybrid materials due to its potential in developing novel materials with unique functions. They have many applications according to their own properties. For example, we can enhance the stability of dispersions, to protect the particles from interaction with surrounding medium, and endow the core optical, conductive, magnetic, adsorptive, and surface reactive properties. Organic-inorganic hybrid materials attract scientists attention because it realize the molecular scale fabrication. The inorganic components can improve the internal domain thermal stability, mechanical strength and scratch resistance. The polymer components exhibit elasticity and film formation ability. The hybrid materials with improved chemical and physical properties can create synergistic effects. There are a number of studies for the organic-inorganic hybrid materials, and mainly focused on the following strategies.(1) Sol-Gel techniqueThe sol-gel process generally starts with metal alkoxide precursors M(OR)z(M=Si, Ti, etc. OR represents alkyl group). The hydroxyl groups are produced by hydrolysis of metal alkoxides. We can also get byproducts such as alcohol and water. In this way, the sol is produced. As the hydrolysis and condensation reactions go deeper, the sol become denser, and it turn out to be a gel at last. Organic-inorganic hybrid materials can be formed via many methods. In this paper, a hybrid material was synthesized through the in situ formation of inorganic species within a polymer matrix.
