Abstract

In this paper, the ZSM-5 and HY catalysts modified by ZnCl2 have been prepared and used widely for the alkylation of Phenol with MTBE to successfully synthesized p-BTP. The influences of different factors of the ZnCl2/ZSM-5 or ZnCl2/HY catalysts such as reaction conditions, active containing and the characteristic of catalysts have been systematically discussed. The reaction mechanism for the alkylation of Phenol with MTBE has been put forward. And their cell parameters, relative crystallinenature, BET surface area, pore structure, acidity and catalytic performances have been measured by XRD, BET, NH3-TPD,ICP -AES. The results have shown that different factors discussed above have different infects on ZnCl2/ZSM-5 and ZnCl2/HY.1. The ZSM-5 catalysts modified by ZnCl2 have been discussed, especially the reaction conditions and activated temperature were emphatically proposed. It showed ZSM-5 catalysts modified by ZnCl2 displayed important roles to improve the catalytic activities, the selectivity for p-BTP and stability of catalyst. At the optimum conditions, the conversion and selectivity are 54.8% and 61.9%, respectively. The further results have shown that the stability of catalysts was worse, and it would lose the activity, the cause was that the ZnCl2 active component of this catalyst was easy to lose in the running process.2. The HY catalysts modified by ZnCl2 have been discussed, especially the reaction conditions and activated temperature were emphatically proposed. It showed HY catalysts modified by ZnCl2 displayed important roles to improve the catalytic activities, the selectivity for p-BTP and stability of catalyst. At the optimum conditions, the conversion and selectivity are 80.8% and 90.9%, respectively. The further results have shown that the stability of catalysts was worse, and it would lose the activity. The carbonaceous deposition on the surface of catalyst particles was the mainly cause.3. The mechanism for the alkylation of Phenol with MTBE has been proposed. It was attributed the roles L acid centers, and formed the (CH3)3C+ intermediate. At the same time, the alkaline centers were also displayed functions. The catalysts with medium strong acidity and acid
