Abstract


The Seventeenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China decided to carry out an in-depth study and practice scientific concept of development activities, and identified scientific outlook on development as important guidelines for China’s social and economic development, as a great strategic thought to develop socialism with Chinese characteristics, and as the whole guidelines for all the work of the party and the state.The scientific outlook on development was brought up to meet new requirements of development under the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory and the thought of Three Represents, by fully recognizing the basic reality that China is in the primary stage of socialism, by deeply analyzing the salient features of the current stage of development in China, by summarizing China’s own practice, by accurately grasping the world development trend, by drawing on the experience of other countries in development and on the basis of inheriting the positive traditional culture of the Chinese Nation. All the important ideas of the scientific development perspective, such as people-oriented, keeping pace with the times and etc. are deeply rooted in the traditional Chinese culture.This thesis aims at questing for the elements of national culture implied by the scientific outlook on development and excavating the traditional cultural origins of scientific concept of development. Studying how the scientific outlook on development inherits and develops the excellent thought of traditional Chinese culture and how it abandons and surpasses the out-dated contents of traditional culture will be helpful for further understanding the scientific views on development. Tracing back to the traditional cultural origins of scientific concept of development has realistic meaning to further recognize the important position of scientific outlook on development in the socialist construction with Chinese characteristics and to understand the essence of the scientific outlook on development.The data of this research are collected by literature review and close reading, and then they are analyzed and classified. Emphases are laid on the following parts to probe into the profound traditional cultural origins of the scientific outlook on development and further summarize the dialectical relation between the scientific outlook on development and traditional culture.Part One defines the key basic concepts. Through reading the important commentaries, by the leaders of several generations of our Party, on scientific development, and by using the research results acquired, the author defines the important concepts like development, people oriented, all-round coordination sustainability and overall consideration.Part Two cites works and literature which can represent the mainstream idea of traditional culture of China to expound how the scientific outlook on development carries forward the achievements of the five thousand years old traditional Chinese culture, which has shaped the great Chinese national characteristics from the perspectives of development, people oriented, all-round coordination sustainability and overall consideration.The last part elaborates how the scientific outlook on development criticizes and abandons the backward and decayed contents of traditional culture from three aspects: the people-based thought, theory that "man is an integral part of nature", and concept of development. Then the traditional Chinese culture of several thousand years is examined and given it up-to-date and most advanced significance of the times and the altitude of the theory.
