This thesis mainly studies that archives of the institutions of higher education in China should construct the mode of post-archives storage in the knowledge economy era to meet the demand of new challenge. First of all, the author interprets the definition and characteristics of archives storage as well as the definition, background and the characteristic of the post-archives storage. Secondly, it explains the theoretical and the practical basis of post-archives storage .The theoretical basis are as following, new sources and macroscopic identification and knowledge services. Two practical basis are as following, the International Standard Archival storage contains post-archives storage ideas and the changing pattern of record keeping in the era of knowledge-based economy. Thirdly, the author presents a detailed analysis of archives storage adopted by higher educational institution and its demerits along with the sources of the demerits. Last but not least, the approach towards the construction of post-archives storage in institution of higher education is fully explained, a three-dimensions construction: the material-dominated construction, the people- oriented construction and environment-directed construction, which is supported by protection and case analysis of post-archives storage. Based on the exist theories and practical analysis, this thesis is expected to provide an innovative research on archives storage mode of higher learning institution, a new strategy for a sustainable development of archives storage.
