To meet the growing needs of the market, many academies of design are established. In fact, as educators, we have to put more thought on the reasons of establishing these schools rather than meeting the needs of the markets only. The rationale of design comes from a series of study on both the content and form of the matter. During the time of preparation, a lot of conceptual works are involved. Nowadays, design is the combination of arts and technology. The typical design basing on instrument rationality begins to put emphasis on the values of aesthetic. Thus, fusion of both the thinking patterns is necessary in contemporary designers. This fact requires us as educators to pay enough attention to the cultivation of this ability o f the students. We have to emphasis on both the expertise of learning and the extension of thinking.Different people have different ways of thinking towards the same matter and this is exactly what we need to be. What we should learn on the works is the various thinking pattern. We develop our thinking through analyzing others’ rather than copy. Needless to say this is a personal thing and it’s difficult for us to copy. The differences of the thinking pattern are what we should pay special attention to. During our process of teaching, we have to systematically train the students’ shattered and personal ability of observation and understanding into an active thinking pattern, which can be a kind of basic quality that can serve but not limited to design.Although thinking is abstract, we can materialize it through analyzing the works of design. In the process of design, we will present many works which have values of appreciation. But we don’t appreciate the creativity and the beauty of the works only, instead, we have to deconstruct it, trying to figure out what’s the origin of it and how the designer finish it. Through the origin of the work, we can find out the personality and background of the designer. The student can learn this process of thinking in this way. We need not to worry that this is plagiarizing others’ stuff because the characteristics of thinking are so various that it’s impossible to copy them. Let’s suppose that we are trying to track the thinking pattern of the designer. It’s impossible for us to totally master the thinking pattern of the designer. In fact, in the process of deconstructing the work, the students are working on finishing a work basing on their own thinking pattern. Although this is their own work, their thinking pattern has been trained through the process of finishing it. This is what we say:Learning strategy.The simple thinking pattern can not satisfy the complicated design phenomenon but the comprehensive one can. We should keep developing the ways of thinking in design on this basis and our life practice. When the thinking pattern continues absorbing others’strength, it turns into a new one which can catch up with the development of the modern society. This combination means the ways of thinking in design can be broadened and personal, which means influential, decisive, sensitive and active designers can be cultivated.
